Apple has made available a series of eight classical guitar works performed by Tully Cathey at the University of Utah. Best of all, they re absolutely free. Three of the works are also written by Cathey (entitled - appropriately enough, “Three pieces for Guitar.” Also included are works by Sir Lennox Berkeley, Frederico Morena Torobba, Tarrega and Debussy.

ITunes U has a large library of works created by major Universities and other educational institutions like the Smithsonian.  We couldn’t find anything on iTunes U that is not available at no charge. Most of them are speeches and lectures, but some are musical. Perhaps the most interesting are the musical selections available from the Smithsonian’s folkways collection which include Jazz, folk, blues, bluegrass and world music.
