Lightsaber Unleashed returns to the App Store, still free but not quite free

The App Store has re-released the PhoneSaber app, coming back with both a new name and some not so nice features. First off the app has been dubbed Lightsaber Unleashed and the release comes with a little bit of good news and little bit of bad news.

For the good news first, the app itself is still free but it does offer some nice annoying splash and nag screens (pictured below) as well. While I can deal with ads on free applications these seem to make Lightsaber Unleashed nothing more than an ad for The Force Unleashed. When you launch Lightsaber you are first presented with the splash screen for The Force Unleashed, then directly after you are presented with a nag screen to either purchase it or just go to Lightsaber. The annoying part here is that it does not seem to go away — ever.

Oh well, assuming you can deal with the extra nagging, the app itself is still pretty fun to play with. Once launched you can choose from five characters to include Darth Vader, General Rahm Kota, The Apprentice, Shaak Ti or Maris Brood. Then once your character has been chosen you will still have your Lightsaber option, but you now also have the option to play dueling music.

Bottom line, I suppose it would be better if I had purchased The Force Unleashed but all nag screens aside, it is a fun app to play with. If nothing else it offered some amusement for my young daughter.

Just an FYI I had the Force Unleashed for the iPhone already purchased & I get no “nag” or “ad” screens at all. So, it appears that for now that’s the only way to get them not to appear if they bother you that much.

Thanks for the confirmation, that is kind of what I suspected, but did not want to purchase the app just to confirm.

Such a shame, they took a fun and lighthearted app and turned it into an advertisement.
