Nullriver makes it official, NetShare will not return to the App Store

Nullriver has recently posted some additional information regarding their tethering application NetShare and sadly it has been officially banned from the App Store. The news comes in the form of a short and not so sweet statement;

“Looks like Apple has decided they will not be allowing any tethering applications in the AppStore. As such, NetShare will not be available in the iTunes AppStore.”

I guess when all things are considered this latest update is disappointing, but at the same time it is not really a surprise. Of course for those who still want to tether and were not able to grab NetShare during its few brief appearances, you still have a few options available as long as you are willing to jailbreak.

I have seen and read AT&T’s agreement and understand that tethering is not allowed, but at this point I cannot really understand why. Its safe to say that users will use more bandwidth should they decide to tether which would add more “strain” to the overall network, but honestly what is the difference whether I stream music using an app like Simplify, Pandora or Last.fm or tether my phone?

    As someone who wanted to use NetShare for some sporadic light Internet use, I’m really disappointed in AT&T. At speeds slower than DSL and cable broadband, their separate data plan package just isn’t worth the money anyway, so allowing tethering would not really take away any business from that. With sub-par connection speeds for 3G, I doubt anyone was going to cancel his home Internet or start doing anything with the tethering ability beyond what they could already do with the iPhone - ie. browsing the web and checking email. It’s not like streaming HD trailers was even feasible.

    Whatever, AT&T.
