It comes as no surprise that O2 was planning on launching a Pay & Go service for the iPhone 3G, however they have (until now) kept a tight lip on the details. The good news is that Pay & Go users looking to grab an iPhone 3G will not have to wait much longer as the service will go live just about two weeks from today on September 16.
The bad news comes with the handset pricing, which personally I feel is a little expensive, however its not something that was not expected. The 8GB model will retail for £349.99 (around $620 US) and the 16GB model will retail for £399.99 (around $710 US). Of course, it would be nice to not be tied into a contract.
As for the calling and data plans, they include unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 12 months after which you will then have to pay just £10 per month to continue. A few items such as Visual Voicemail and call merging however are not included. Monthly minute top-ups are based on the “Favourite Place” plans and offer 500 minutes for a £10-£14 top-up, 1,000 minutes for a £15-£29 top-up or unlimited minutes for a £30 plus top-up.
Overall, the Pay & Go options are not sounding all that bad, I could live with paying more money for the phone and not have to worry about a contract.
