The new iPod Nano + new iPod Shuffle colors

We’ve been waiting for them for several weeks, and they’re finally here! If you haven’t already heard, Apple unveiled its incredibly sleek fourth-generation iPod Nano earlier today, along with a revamped iPod Touch and iTunes 8.0. The new iPod Nano is Apple’s “thinnest iPod yet,” and looks absolutely stunning.

Unlike previous iPod Nano, the fourth-generation Nano comes in 9 vibrant colors: silver, charcoal, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and pink. I must say, Apple does a magnificent job of blending the trendy aspect of their products with sheer, unbridled functionality.

Just like the iPhone 3G, the new Nano comes in two different storage sizes, 8GB and 16GB. In comparison to the iPod Classic and previous iPods in general, the new Nano seems like just the right balance between storage space and the device’s physical size.

As expected, the new iPod Nano has a rounded face, as well as a gorgeous 2 inch screen for a flawless viewing experience.

The fourth-generation iPod Nano brings a slew of new features to the table; ranging from a new interface to the integrated use of the accelerometer. The new iPod Nano makes use of a completely redone firmware/interface, allowing the user to utilize a drop-down menu, Coverflow, and Genius.

It comes as no surprise that Apple has included Coverflow as an integral part of the iPod Nano, what does come as a surprise is its reliance on the Nano’s built-in accelerometer. Aside from the iPod Touch, the new iPod Nano is the only iPod to ever make use of the accelerometer. The accelerometer’s role is simple yet effective, when you tilt the iPod Nano on its side, it will automatically tilt the contents on the screen sideways too. This is useful when viewing videos, using Coverflow, or simply while listening to music.

Apart from its use tilting the screen-contents of the iPod Nano, the accelerometer also allows you to shake your iPod Nano to shuffle your songs. You heard right, next time you hop on the subway and the guy sitting next to you is shaking his iPod Nano, it’s not because its broken, but because he’s shuffling his music!

Lastly, the new iPod Nano utilizes the recently released “Genius” function, which can also be found in iTunes 8.0, also released earlier today. What Genius does is, provide you with a list of songs that are similar to the one you are currently listening to. To access Genius, all you need to do is hold down the center button until the drop down menu appears, from there select “Genius.”

I almost forgot, the 8GB iPod Nano costs $149, while the 16GB iPod Nano costs $199.

On a side note, the $49 iPod Shuffle now comes in four new colors: blue, green, pink, and silver.

I must say, Kevin Rose nailed these rumors right on the head, only strengthening his reputation as a valid source of information within the tech community.

I think the iPhone is going to receive color sooner rather than later. It’s just the natural progression. I think they would really sell well.
