Updated PwnageTool, QuickPwn released, let the iPhone firmware 2.1 jailbreaking begin

The war between those who prefer to have a jailbroken iPhone and Apple seems to be heating up with quicker and quicker updates coming from those jailbreaking developers, namely the unofficial iphone-dev team. This time, perhaps in an effort to show just how relevant the jailbreaking scene still is, the unofficial iphone-dev team made quick work of iPhone firmware 2.1 and released both an updated version of PwnageTool and QuickPwn. Coming in at just about the 24 hour mark are updated versions which are currently Mac only, however they did point out that “Windows won’t be far behind.”

So if you are looking to jailbreak firmware 2.1 and are running a Mac then you are currently in luck.

Below are the official Bittorent download links, but if you would prefer a direct (non-bittorent) download check the DevTeams post (link below) for a bunch of mirrors.

It seems that some people have recently taken issue with just how relevant the jailbreak still is, especially since the iPhone 3G still cannot be unlocked. According to the DevTeam’s website they have stated that “Some of the popular press and blogs have been backing the opposition. :-)” I would say this comment, or a big portion of it is coming courtesy of Thomas Ricker via Engadget, so make sure you head on over and voice your opinion in his poll. Personally I am all for the jailbreak as it still offers a lot that will not be included in the official App Store. But I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion.

In the meantime, should you feel the need, then jailbreak away! Now its time for me to fire up QuickPwn myself…

I must say, this upgrade is the fastest Pwnage turn-around I’ve ever seen. The Dev team definately has been working on overdrive. As for the question whether or not jailbreaking is necessary, it may be based on opinion. But for me, I feel that jailbreaking is necessary for me. I personally like my iPhone 3G to look “one of a kind.” I like customizing. And Apple apparently doesn’t quite share the same view. There are also other great apps that you just can’t get from the App store. As of right now, I love having the best of both worlds. I love that I can use both the App Store and Cydia for my 3rd party application needs. To all that have their hands in Pwnage, I salute y’all for your awesomeness!

Hey, so I jailbroke my 3g 2.1 with quickpwn and it was all running great till today. I was having a little problem with some apps so I wanted to restart my phone and now it will not load passed the apple. It will stay on the apple for like 5 minutes then it flickers and seems like its trying to boot again.

    Any ideas???
please, I am kinda useless without my phone

    thanks
