Banned Podcaster app once again available…for jailbreakers

It seems that the once banned Podcaster app just will not stay away. If you remember back, this app was originally banned from the App Store because it duplicated the “functionality of the Podcast section of iTunes.” Since then the developer decided to turn to the AdHoc distribution method, of course that only lasted a short while before Apple cut that supply chain off.

So what is a person left to do, turn to the black market side and make it available as a jailbroken app. Well, that is exactly what has happened. As of yesterday evening version 1.1 of Podcaster is available for download through Cydia. Once downloaded it is available as a 14 day trial, after which it will cost just $4.99 to keep running. Sounds like a good deal because those of us who were “lucky” enough to get it using the AdHoc method paid $9.99.

Its also important to point out that if you did purchase through the AdHoc method that your version will continue to work and will continue to receive future updates without having to jailbreak your iPhone. Of course, I would think that it would be easier on the update process if the developer would offer activation codes to the people who purchased over AdHoc for the jailbroken version.

Either way, its a great app and not only is it worth the $4.99 but perhaps more important it is nice to see that they have not given up on getting their work out.
