Zibri has seemingly made a return to the jailbreaking scene, but its not the news that many would have hoped for. It has been a while since we last heard, but one of the last mentions was stating that ZiPhone would not be made available for the iPhone 2.0 software.
Honestly I am not really sure what to make of his latest post, it almost seems he is a little bitter. Nonetheless he did mention that he is “testing” a new version of ZiPhone and it “works pretty well” but was quick to mention that it was not ready for a public release. Of course I am not sure we will ever see a public release at this point, nothing was promised or even stated other than he hopes that it will be ready “someday.”
ZiPhone used to be a good option for jailbreaking and unlocking, but with the good work that the iPhone Dev Team has already set forward with both Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn as well as a few other available options I am not sure another addition is even needed. Personally I have found my tool of choice and it would take a special addition to make me switch away for future jailbreaks.
But taking this a little further, and the reasoning behind my earlier comment about Zibri being bitter is that he also hinted that jailbreaking has become more about piracy and that makes me wonder just what he is really thinking.
“Modding the iPhone at moment seems just a hypocritical synonym for “getting apps for free from appstore” and I’m not fine with that.”
Personally I cannot disagree more with that statement, jailbreaking is not about getting something for free, its about using your iPhone in ways that you can that Apple will not allow. Sure there were a few early instances where legal apps were cracked and made available, but for the most part the jailbroken apps are available because Apple will not allow them in the App Store.

Zibri will never release anything until the Dev Team get the unlock out! After that, he will make a zibri 2.0 changing the GUI and puts a lot of adsense on his blog to make money.
Zibri is useless and a thief just like Geohot. He has skills but he behaves just like a kid!

Axou while I agree that we shouldn’t expect anything new from Zibri any time soon, the fact that you call GeoHot a thief destroys any of your credibility.
GeoHot is the shit! He invented the very first true iPhone unlock, what
have you done lately?

“…I am not sure another addition is even needed.”
Yeah…because who needs choice? One option’s best….right?

brodezoe,
I do stand by my statement, but I also fully agree that more options are generally better. That said my reasoning is that I am not sure what Zibri will be able to offer that will make the jailbreak process any better or easier.
Of course, I am still interested in seeing what he will have to offer and I am sure if he does release something he will still get plenty of downloads, he still has alot of fans that used his earlier versions.
