More 2.2 details; Over-the-air podcast downloads, podcast directory

Some new screenshots have added some unofficial confirmation to firmware 2.2 including over-the-air podcast downloading. The new screenshots, along with some details come courtesy of the, German blog Schimanke.com.

According to the posted screenshots, Apple has set up a podcast directory within the iTunes app and have also enabled over-the-air downloading of podcasts. Of course there are some limits to what can be downloaded. It was mentioned that users will be able to download both audio and video podcasts over the cellular connection or an available wireless connection, however those downloads on the cellular connection will be limited to files that are 10MB or smaller.

Keep reading to check out the posted screenshots below. As someone who listens to quite a bit of podcasts this comes as very good news, of course, I already have both Podcaster and MobileCast (jailbroken app) on my iPhone, but the built-in integration will be welcome.

I don’t really give a rip about pod-casting on my iPhone. I would really jsut like to see some of the features that have always been missing from the iPhone be added! How ’bout cutting and pasting? Or MMS messaging? Having the greatest gadget ever built is hard to argue when my niece’s $20 Nokia phone is more useful as a communication device.

i agree, my iphone is great at what i does now, ok my calls get cut off quite alot, and i still get booted out of safari now and again, so i would rather they improved them and all the other inbuilt apps first before adding things like podcasting. sure podcasting would be a nice feature, but if i’m really honest i cant see me using it after the first week, i hardley ever buy music through itunes as it is because the signal strength is rarely good enough
And apple must surley add MMS to the iphone soon, unless theres some reason legally why they cant, or there must at least be an app company out there that is developing one…. unless apple are blocking it.
Almost every forum you read there are always loads of comments about adding MMS so there is obviously a massive demand for it.
for me the biggest things apple should concentrate on is, calls, internet, MMS, and a satnav app for google maps.
