It seems that the Qik speculation is destined to continue. We have seen this topic come up a few times in the past, the most recent came just about a month ago when Kevin Rose mentioned that it would be available “very soon.”
Of course, his comment was quickly followed with a statement on the official Qik blog. They mentioned that although they are looking into getting an approval, that they are still “not sure when and how this will happen.”
To me that sounded like the end of it, or what should have been the end of it, of course everything changes, and this topic has once again made a return. The latest is (thankfully) not coming from Kevin Rose, but instead the Chief TWiT himself — Leo Laporte where he also mentions that it should be available soon.
Bottom line, Qik is a cool app, and it is one that I use on my jailbroken iPhone, but that said the video is not all that great. The lighting (or lack of) always posses a problem in getting decent video quality. Not to mention, Qik does not seem to handle motion very well, and it does not seem to matter whether I am streaming live over Wi-Fi or 3G.
Of course, even with it’s faults, the app is pretty fun to play with and something that should receive a warm welcome should Apple ever decide to give it a thumbs up. In the meantime and despite Leo Laporte being a well respected member of the Internet geek community, I would not be holding my breath in hopes of seeing Qik in the App Store anytime soon.

Leo certainly got my attention when he said that the other day. I got all excited, only to learn this rumor train has been on for awhile. Oh well.
