According to iPhone Hellas it looks like we can expect to see the next iPhone update a little sooner than later. According to the source, which was noted as being “reliable,” iPhone firmware v2.2 will be available on November 21, which is just about ten days from now. Thankfully, for those who jailbreak, myself included we have already seen the Dev Team make quick work of 2.2.
We have already seen some exciting new additions for firmware 2.2, but what about those secret features that will somehow magically make their way into firmware 2.2 for the final release. I can only hope that Apple offers both cut and paste as well as MMS messaging. I am not sure I want or need either of those personally, but those two alone should quite some of the masses. Of course we also have plenty of people waiting for Flash support as well as those once promised Push Notification Services. Well, if not, there is always firmware 2.3.

I don’t understand why some (not necessarily the author) can’t see the need for copy & paste on the iPhone. Recently I received several text messages I wanted to forward to others. I was shocked to discover that the iPhone can’t forward text messages!! If only I could copy & paste the text…….Another example: you receive an MMS message but AT&T sends you a link and a long complex user ID and Password that you must enter after clicking the link and switching to Safari. Of course you could write those down on paper, but come on! Just a few examples of the need for Copy & Paste.

mms is not going to happen. EVER. thats just my opinion, but is yesterdays technology. in a year every hand held device on the planet is going to have internet or at least email. that is the wave of the future and apple is not looking backwards for tech they are paving the way forward. you can open ALOT of shit in the mail app and its just getting better. copy and paste is a must for me.

How about fixing the email fetching problem??? don’t you people want that???

I agree that MMS is probably not gonna happen. And we all should advance forward and start using email and Youtube. There’s a lot that can be done with out using MMS. Then again, most people use MMS because its a common ground right now. Copy/paste is still the top 5 most called for feature. I really hope that it shows in 2.2. As for SMS forwarding, there is a new app in Cydia (jailbroken iPhones only) called My SMS. So far its brand new, but proves to be pretty solid. The only thing is that it cost $4.95 for the full version. Registering the app will alleviate app’s speed/time delay of 30sec. Some of the app’s features are: landscape view and keyboard, message forwarding, multiple deletion, and it can be set as a default SMS (you can Poof your main SMS off the springboard with BossPref). I recommend that everyone tries the app out.

MMS may be old technology, but I don’t beleive it’s going anywhere anytime soon precisely because it is so widely used. It’s faster and easier to access than email (at least until email pushing works reliably) – I don’t personally ever send an MMS message, but I get them all the time and it would be nice to be able to retrieve them easily.

I really never used MMS before, even if my previous cellphone could handle them. So MMS support is not important for me
The number 1 feature I really miss (for 2.2) is copy and paste.

About time! Been waiting for 2.2 for ages, check almost everyday, roll on tomorrow. Copy and paste is needed, MMS is not.

Did anyone elses Iphone mysteriously cease to work this evening? I’ve been sitting here trying to restore the thing for 2 hours. After about it stalling at updating firmware – Viola! 2.2 is suddenly available. Strange? Yes, coincidence, doubtful. 246mb download – lucky I didn’t NEED my phone

My 1st gen Iphone is unlocked by ziphone 3.0. Can I update my 1.1.4 firmware to v2.2? Or will I lock my AT&T Iphone? I use a Mac/Leapord OS. I need the apps tab to load all the apps I have purchased in Itunes. How do I get my apps to my iphone without v2.2? Thanks
