iPhone App: Alien Choir

iPhone App: Alien Choir

As someone with no musical abilities (at all), I was sort of unsure how well I’d be able to “conduct” a choir of seven singing aliens.  Turns out that I was right: I sucked.  But that was, again, my own failing, not that of the app itself, which quickly becomes quite fun and addictive, even if you’re not very good at it.

It features 7 little alien characters, each playing a different range of notes when you touch them, even more than one at a time.

The alien story aside (and each alien has his or her own stats/bio page…cute) this doesn’t seem to be a terribly unique app… until you look at the accelerometer integration.  As you tilt the iPhone to the left or right, the pitch changes.  So with some quick wrist work, you can achieve quite a variety of musical stylings, especially when you throw in the 3 different backbeats that are available.

I did notice, however, that only six of these aliens can sing, despite what their bios would have you believe.  Mykalee, the orange one with the single, giant eye, doesn’t seem to work at all.  I assume, however, that this is a temporary bug that will likely be rectified via an update.

All-in-all, this is a quite fun, if limited, app that should keep you entertained for good 15 minute chunks of time or keep your kids distracted for a couple of hours.  It can be found in the here (iTunes link) for $0.99 USD.

I seems to me that the reason why Mykalee might not work is that she(?)’s missing a major component of singing. She doesn’t have a mouth. I’m just saying…
