As great as the iPhone is, it’s not really he best option for the blind. Bruno Fosi has devised a potential way for letting the sight-impaired join the party by combining a silicon iPhone case with embossed symbols over the screen with a special app that would bring both tactile feedback and text-to-speech features to the iPhone.
It’s a little unclear exactly how this would work if implemented, but it’s a nice idea, if not one that could be fully implemented at the third-party level, given the level of integration that would be necessary for the software to function as it would need to. If it were ever developed, it would probably have to be in tandem with Apple.
