It seems that the US Army is now using everyday technology as a translation tool. That everyday technology item is the iPod touch, and instead of just playing games and listening to music, it is also helping soldiers communicate a little more effectively while in foreign countries. The demo, which comes courtesy of the Pentagon Channel does not offer many details, however it appears to be a regular touch with the standard operating system. Of course, we would assume that the translation app, which is referred to as vcom is not going to be found in the App Store anytime soon. The demo highlights the ease of use, showing off how the soldier is able to choose the language and then the appropriate phrase. The app even allows the phrase to be spoken through the built-in speaker or just put on the screen in the form of text. You can check out the video below, the iPod touch demo comes at the 04:21 mark.
