New images are beginning to surface showing off what appears to a native Ustream app on the iPhone. Details are pretty scarce so far, nothing really to go on other than the image. It does appear to be more than just a viewer for Ustream channels, and has a button for both Broadcast and Record as well as Mute and Preferences.
Ustream was recently also reported to be working on a mobile version for other phones such as the Nokia N95, so this seems to make sense. However, given there are not any other live video streaming apps in the store, this may in fact be available only for those willing to jailbreak.
In the meantime, assuming this is accurate, we can hope that Apple has a change of heart and allows it in. One thing I did notice about the image, which is claimed to be from a reliable source, is that the screen does not have the standard bar with the carrier information and time at the top of the display. That is not to say these images are not the real deal, but I cannot recall seeing any apps that run full screen before, except in landscape mode.

There are several apps that remove the bar. For example Stanza offers users the option to show or hide it.

This would be awesome if true. Even better if a jailbreak isn’t required, but I’ll take what I can get.
