iPhone App: Labyrinth

Happy New Year! If you’re wondering why I’m blogging here on Jan. 1, 2009, it’s because I have no life. No, actually, it’s because I have kids still asleep from being out so late last night, and I have some spare time.

I like to play games on my iPhone, but not as much as my son, Patrick. Patrick is 12 and an aspiring writer who is a total games freak — he plays ‘em on his Playstation Portable, Playstation 2, Gameboy, and, lately, his dad’s iPhone.

I thought it might be cool to let Patrick blog with me about the games he plays on the iPhone. You might enjoy getting the 12-year-old take on games, especially if you have kids and are looking to find games for them to play on your device. So, herewith we present Patrick’s Ponderings — and start with the free iPhone version of Labyrinth, known as the LITE edition.

“Labyrinth LITE

LabyrinthLabyrinth LITE edition for the iPhone is a good choice of a free app. You tilt the iPhone slightly and avoid getting the little silver ball into the holes. This is a very difficult skill to master, because the iPhone is very sensitive, so you can only move your iPhone a tiny bit at a time.

The object of the game is to get the ball to a certain spot, with out getting the ball into one of the holes.  Game play is very simple and straight forward. So, all you have to do is get the ball across the board, easy, right? WRONG!! This game can get VERY frustrating! (I mean that in a good way!)

The sounds on the game are actually fun to listen to, like the ball bouncing of the wooden rails that sometimes protect you from getting the ball into the hole (I love those guard rails! They’ve saved me quite a bit, and you can stop at one, and just sit back and look at the screen for a moment, to see your best strategy of getting the ball into the black-and-white hole.)  Overall, I like the sound, though I wish there was music you could listen to.

The picture quality of the game is nothing to brag about, but it’s adequate. It’s a good timewaster, if you’re bored, or waiting to get your hair cut — that’s the time to use it. Hey, it’s a free app, and you get ten levels, a solid picture quality, and a fun, free game.”

So, there you have Patrick’s review of Labyrinth LITE. I would add that it’s well worth the $6.99 upgrade to the full version, which has tons more levels, most of which are significantly more challenging.
