Tweetie Does Twitter Right

In the AppStore, one of the big subcategories that have popped up is clients to interact with the messaging service Twitter. There are a lot of them out there (both free and paid) and different ones appeal to different people, but Tweetie seems to be the best.

Tweetie packs in all the stuff you’d expect from a paid Twitter app and more: horizontal keyboard support (though you have to enable/disable it in settings, it doesn’t read the accelerometer), ReTweeting, search/saved searches, picture uploading, and the ability to show reply chains.

Tweetie also offers a unique feature that I now think almost any iPhone application should have: Instapaper integration.

For those who don’t know it, Instapaper is a service that allows you to save a list of links to pages that you want to read at a later time through a browser bookmarklet. On the desktop I found it almost useless, but the on the iPhone it’s a whole new story. If someone posts a link in one of their status messages, I can now save it to read when I get on a computer or have a faster connection available.

Unfortunately you still have to start loading the page you want to save to Instapaper in Tweetie’s built in browser, but it still comes in handy.
