Dev Team announces untethered jailbreak now available for 2G iPod touch users

The Dev Team have recently announced the availability on an untethered jailbreak option for the 2nd generation iPod touch. According to the posting on the Dev Team blog, they have found and taken advantage of a “fatal flaw in its bootrom that means you will always be able to pwn these devices no matter what firmware updates come along.”

Users who were using the previous tethered option to jailbreak their 2G iPod touch can download a patch (link) to update their current software, however the untethered option has not yet been built into Pwnage Tool or QuickPwn. Which pretty much means that many of those looking to jailbreak their 2G iPod touch will have to wait just a little longer. Of course, the good news is that the Dev Team has finally done it.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for an updated version of Pwnage Tool or QuickPwn and get ready to jailbreak.
