We still have a few days to wait until Apple offers the iPhone 3.0 preview, but that has not stopped everyone from chiming in with features that are rumored to be included. Thankfully the event is coming up quickly, (its on March 17), which means we will see just how accurate everyone is sooner than later.
Anyway, I am sure everyone has been putting together their own wish list of sorts, but these are the features that I have seen as coming.
According to Boy Genius Report:
- MMS
- Tethering via Bluetooth and USB
According to Daring Fireball:
- New home screen (SpringBoard)
- Push notifications
- “And maybe — pretty please, Mr. Forstall, with sugar on top — copy and paste.”
OK, so it sounds like that last one is more a hope than a prediction, but I think just about everyone is hoping for that. But in actuality, John Gruber (Daring Fireball) has listed this as a “wish list” but it seems that MacRumors is backing these up, with a nice addition of their own.
According to MacRumors:
- Magnetometer support, “which could suggest the use of a digital compass in future devices, much like the Android G1.”
All-in-all, I would be happy to see these features actually show up. What are your hopes and dreams for iPhone 3.0? Leave a comment below and make your predictions…

If 3.0 doesn’t have background apps, I’m going to be very, very unhappy. Is the Palm Pre the new standard?

I agree with David, it seems that Palm and Blackberry were quick to take the best aspects of the iPhone to improve their products and, very swiftly, surpass the iPhone. As much as I love my iPhone, my contract is up in October and I will be hard-pressed not switch to a new smart-phone with MMS, cut and paste, and back-ground apps.
