iPhone 3.0 will offer new Voice Memo app

In addition to new features, iPhone 3.0 will also bring along a new application, one that could compete with some existing third party apps such as iTalk Recorder or Voxie. The new native app will be Voice Memos and it will allow the user to record and save audio files as well as send them by email or MMS. The Voice Memos app will work with either the iPhones built-in microphone or an external microphone. Users will also be able to trim the recording, just in case you only wanted to save or share a specific portion.

I am interested to see how well this app works, I would think that the transfer of recorded notes will be easily managed using iTunes. Personally, even without the ability to edit the recordings, I am thinking that I may stick with Evernote for any voice memos that I need to record.

I develop for the iPod Touch and after installing 3.0 it appears I will have to stick with Voxie as Voice Memo is nowhere to be found. :) I assume this will be an iPhone only app? I don’t understand why they left it off the iPod but oh well.

This application is horrible. The first time i tried to use it, it was for a meeting and afterwards it wouldn’t let me save it and booted me out of the application so I lost my meeting recording. The second time I tried, it did save it but when I went back to gather a summary, it won’t stop loading. I let it load for at least 15 minutes, possibly more. I think I will stick with QuickVoice. You dropped the ball on this one Apple, and the worst part is, you can’t even delete it.

This app works great! I’ve used it to record my family’s band at gig and rehearsals. At one event I couldn’t find a good place to put my iphone so I tucked it into my back pocket. The recording was just as good as when I had placed it in front of our instruments. i can trim out all the un-needed audio at the beginning of the gig and remove the sounds from us packing up after the gig…. I forgot to turn it off :)
