iTunes version 8.1 now available for download

In addition to yesterdays announcement regarding the new iPod Shuffle, Apple also released an updated version of iTunes. The software, which is now at version 8.1 is said to be “faster and more responsive.”

Based on the release notes, version 8.1 will offer a benefit to users with large music libraries, as well as when browsing the iTunes Store and getting ready to sync an iPhone or iPod.

Other improvements and bug fixes include:

  • Supports syncing with iPod shuffle (3rd generation).
  • Allows friends to request songs for iTunes DJ.
  • Adds Genius sidebar for your Movies and TV Shows.
  • Improves performance when downloading iTunes Plus songs.
  • Provides AutoFill for manually managed iPods.
  • Includes many accessibility improvements.
  • Allows iTunes U and the iTunes Store to be disabled separately using Parental Controls.

Additionally, another nice feature is one that deals with importing your CD’s. iTunes 8.1 will allow “CDs to be imported at the same sound quality as iTunes Plus.” In other words, now users who always use the default settings for importing will still be able to have better quality music.

Anyway, sounds worthy of an upgrade, another plus, I have not heard of any issues or problems from people who have upgraded.
