Sirius XM planning to release an official iPhone app, coming this Spring

The financially struggling satellite radio provider Sirius XM has announced their plans to launch an official iPhone app, which is expected to be available during the Spring. Other than the fact that the app is coming, details were pretty light, this does however offer a little bit of further speculation as to why the StarPlayr app from Nicemac will not see any further development.

Hopefully Sirius XM will be able to be a little more competitive and stay alive with an app for the iPhone. If you ask me, the price point will be the most important factor. It would be nice to see users be able to get an iPhone only subscription. Of course, Sirius XM already has some decent (and in more than a few cases free) competition when it comes to music streaming on the iPhone. Thankfully they do have a little more to offer in terms of talk radio such as Howard Stern, Opie & Anthony as well as NPR and all the sports coverage.
