Unfortunately it looks that the Sirius XM iPhone app that we have been waiting for will not be entering the App Store. The development of the application has been canceled, and will not receive any further development in the future.
The message which comes courtesy of the Nicemac Team gave us the news.
“NiceMac has decided it is in our best interests to discontinue the StarPlayr project.”
I think a key part of that statement is “best interests.” Also, it was previously noted that the app was not approved nor rejected by Apple, which those two items combined could lead one to believe that they were receiving some pressure from Sirius XM.
Basically, this could mean good news or bad news. The obvious bad news for those who were waiting for this app now, but it could still mean that Sirius XM is planning an official app in the future.
Of course, even without the StarPlayr app or any Sirius XM app, there are still plenty of good alternatives for streaming music on the iPhone. A personal favorite of mine is the Slacker app, but there are also other good options such as Pandora and Last.fm.
