Let me start out by saying that I am pretty picky when it comes to an iPhone case, I ALWAYS use one, but generally seem to have a hard time finding that “perfect” model. I will say that I have used hard shell cases from time to time, but I prefer to use one made from silicone.
Given that, I was very happy when I was given the chance to use and review an Impact series case from OtterBox.
The packaging is simple and it included the case and a clear screen protector. I will point out that I already had an Invisible Shield screen protector from Zagg, so given that I can only comment on the case itself and not the screen protector that was included. However, the screen protector did feel durable in my hand. Anyway back to my thoughts on the case itself…
Typically, when reviewing an item, I would offer some pros and cons, however, in this case (no pun intended) I cannot really offer anything that would fit as a con. Now don’t get me wrong, that is not to say the case it perfect for everyone, but it has served me very well.
So just what makes the case seem so good to me…
To begin with, it offers solid protection without adding a lot of bulk. The case itself feels slim in your hand, and has a nice textured feel on the sides. It also has a little extra padding on the corners and back, which should offer a bit of extra protection should your iPhone suffer any bumps.
As for accessibility, the case has an opening for the dock connector and speakers on the bottom, as well as the headphone jack, ringer mute switch and the camera lens. The power button, volume up and down as well as the Home button are all covered but remain easy to access.
Given that I have been using this case exclusively for several months now, I can say that one nice perk is that this case does not feel stretched out. It may not feel as tight as the first day I put it on, but it does not feel loose on the iPhone. In other words, it may have stretched a little, but is far from being loose.
Conclusion: My OtterBox Impact series case will remain on my iPhone, and for (just under) 20 bucks I cannot even complain about the price.
The OtterBox Impact case for the iPhone 3G is available in either white or black and retails for $19.95.

this may be a dumb question, but how did you get the sms app icon on the bottom row?

chad,
Just touch and hold on one of the app icons. They will then begin to jiggle. You can at that point reorder the apps on the page (or to another), including dragging SMS down to the bottom bar… Click on the home button when done…

i don’t know the answer, but it isn’t that simple – doing it that way you can only have 4 items on the dock, but you can switch them. that phone in the picture could be unlocked?

Made out of what again? No discussion of that and how the material feels. Hmmmm.

@HotSkins. We offer products from Gelaskins and Musicskins. Musicskins uses license photo/art from the music company. Gelaskins have some pretty awesome contemporary and classic art designs. They are made of the same 3M material that goes on and off the phones very easily and without leaving any goo behind.
