One billionth iPhone app contest winner announced

One billionth iPhone app contest winner announced

Several weeks ago Apple launched a promotional contest titled the “1 Billion App Countdown,” [article] the winner of this contest would be selected randomly, meaning that the 1,000,000,000th person to download an app would not automatically win.

Well, the results are in:

“The one billionth app, Bump created by Bump Technologies, was downloaded by Connor Mulcahey, age 13, of Weston, CT. As the grand prize winner of Apple’s one billion app countdown contest, Connor will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule and a MacBook Pro.”

When iTunes’ vice-president called the boy’s residence with the good news, his mother answered the phone, and quickly hung up thinking it was some sort of scam.

The boy was successfully notified via an email received on his iPhone whilst on the way home from baseball practice.

“I was pretty surprised, but I felt sorry for all those other people who tried hard to win.”

Congratulations Connor, I must say I’m pretty jealous!
