This story seems to be reverse of what we would typically expect, instead of hearing about a desktop app being developed for the iPhone, we are seeing an iPhone app being developed for the desktop. The app is the highly praised (as well as my personal favorite) Twitter client called Tweetie.
In a recent posting over on the atebits blog, the release is “imminent” although a specific date was not announced. As for details, it was noted that the Mac version will be “more than a port” but instead it will be a “complete rewrite.”
The new core is faster, more stable, and more extensible than its predecessor. Not only will it form the foundation of the Mac version, but also the foundation of the next generation of Tweetie 2.0 for iPhone.
The good news here, aside from the fact that we will have another desktop Twitter client to choose from on the Mac is that this will also make Tweetie 2.0 for the iPhone even better.
