Did AT&T block 3G SlingPlayer use to prevent competition with i-Verse?

Say it isn’t so, after all AT&T does not need to offer yet another reason for customers to complain about their motives. So far, we have heard the official statement from AT&T in regards to the crippling of the SlingPlayer app, however according to a Gizmodo tipster, AT&T may have had another reason.

It seems that AT&T may have limited SlingPlayer to prevent any competition with a similar service that they are working on. The potential app from AT&T is called i-Verse and will work with their home U-Verse TV solution. What it will do is let customers stream saved DVR content as well as shows over a 3G connection.

Assuming this is accurate information, that is a pretty shady thing to do. Of course, it really is not all that smart, personally I already have and already like Slingbox. That said I have no desire to sign up for U-Verse. What ever happened to competition being a good thing.

Wow.. As an Exec at AT&T, I think that’s a sucky thing to say. Why would you wish CANCER on anyone? Jeez!

  3. Bill Says:

well than I wish they would just cease to be… same thing the greed at the EXEC level of AT&T is only rivaled by the banking industry.. so yea I think Ball Cancer fits… If the Shoe Fits wear it.. If my company did what AT&T does it would have already been broken up AGAIN by the Govt.

Totally not cool wishing cancer on anyone. That is more stupid given that you are talking about cell phones and watching TV via 3G. Are you so addicted to TV that you wish people to die because of your chosen communications device doesn’t support 3G? Wow, how immature can you get?

On the other hand, AT&T… it is despicable that you would limit the SlingPlayer app in favor of the Uverse service. I don’t have AT&T for cable and it’s not even possible to get it. How can you reconcile this other than being anti-competitive behavior? It is also interesting that you have other devices that do placeshift with SlingPlayer. So, the success of the iPhone is going to be held against the users rather than use the profits from the PAID service fees from those customers to ensure a rich user experience and sufficient bandwidth? That is just total BS!

    Dear AT&T,
If it’s true, shame on you!

I never said i wanted them to die…. Being a Survivor of the very same thing and knowing what it does to someone and how their outlook on life can change this is where i speak from… and my intention upon them has more to do with Just the iPhone which i do not use it has to do with how the handle their business…. and how the Screw the general public for their benefit.. especially those whom have no other choice except AT&T… I stand by my statement….Especially being a survivor…
