How much have you spent on App Store apps?

I have been seeing quite a bit of talk lately about how much Apple has made selling apps, as well as the high price of the recently released SlingPlayer Mobile app. Given that, I started to look at what I have on my iPhone, wondering how much I have spent so far.

I will say that I have never been one to not purchase an app if it was expensive, after all I have purchased the $29.99 SlingPlayer Mobile app.

Anyway, I started looking back through my purchases, doing a little math, and came up with a grand total of $143.70. Honestly I am not sure if that is good or bad. I will say that my app purchases have been pretty spread out. I never really saw a peak of paid apps, however in the very beginning I seemed to be initially focused on free apps.

The overall total does not really bother me, however in looking back I was surprised to find that I spent as much on games — which are apps that I rarely ever use now. For example, I have purchased apps such as Bejeweled 2 ($9.99), Spore ($9.99), Star Wars ($9.99), Pool ($5.99) and more. That is close to 40 bucks with just those few alone.

Of course, there are also free apps to consider in this cost. I currently use Evernote, SugarSync and the Kindle app, which are all free to download but they all have fees that can be associated with them. I have a premium Evernote subscription which costs me $45 per year, a 10GB “Starter” account with SugarSync that is $24.99 per year and then the cost of books for the Kindle. Sure these apps are not limited to the iPhone, however it is safe to say that I would not have opted for an Evernote or SugarSync account had they not offered an iPhone app.

I don’t remember the prices off the top of my head for sure, but I’ll try to estimate. I bought Bejeweled for $3 (can’t believe it used to be $10!), Yahtzee for $4, Tweetie for , Interval Timer for $2, Drunkulator for $2, Backdrops for $2, and SplashMoney for $10 (waste of money..). So around $25.

I’ve probably spent close to $200. The big ticket items were Spore, Money Ball, Enigmo, Geocaching, and Sales Tracker…that’s close to $75 right there (I bought each of them at full price.) Add another handful of $3-$5 apps and a whole bunch at $0.99 and $200 seems like a good guess.

Somewhere around $150-$200. I love collecting these things, and quite a few I only pay the $0.99 to check them out and enjoy the novelty of them. I will usually spend up to $5 for the promise of something good. I bought 2-3 apps for $9.99 (spore, sim city come to mind) and have enjoyed them but not as much as some of the cheaper ones. For some reason high production values don’t really make me stick around as much as fun and simplicity (although Peggle has had my attention for a week or so strait!)

I have spent about $25 on buying any games. But I’ve stopped buying because I do not have time to enjoy them.

I’m a cheapie…I’ve bought 3 apps Fish Tycoon for $.99 i think, Simplifymedia for $3.99, and Akendz for $2.99, and gotten over 200 free ones.

I’ve mostly stuck to the free ones… seeing how infrequently I use most apps, I haven’t really found many that I would be willing to shell out for… I’ve spent under $10 since the app store came out, notably the HoldEm poker game ($5 i think)- which i almost never use – and recently Feeds ($3) for syncing offline goodness with my GReader account… maybe a couple of 99 cent ones here and there as well

Looking at the games side of things, the ones that people generally go on about turn out to be pretty underwhelming when i try out their free versions (if avaiable)… Rolando and Super Monkey Ball come to mind… you know the game i play most on the iPhone? BlackJack Run 21 which is free, fast to pick up, and fast to finish… just what i need from my iPhone most of the time…
