While writing up my earlier Twitterific 2.0 post I came across a post that I wrote shortly after the App Store was available. In that post I highlighted “my top 5 apps, an honorable mention, and what I am still hoping for.” After re-reading that post I realized that while some of this has changed, I am still holding true as to the apps that I am using, which I found interesting especially considering how many apps I have installed and uninstalled since. It is also interesting to see that the apps I was hoping for have almost all been replaced by something else that has come along.
My Top 5 consisted of Mobile Flickr (now called Mobile Fotos), Evernote, Twitterific, Weather Bug and myTo-Dos. As for what I am using now, Mobile Fotos, Evernote and WeatherBug have remained. Twitterific has been removed, however as I mentioned earlier I plan on giving it a second shot once 2.0 is released. Otherwise myTo-Dos has been removed, but its functionality has been replaced (at least for me) by Evernote.
As for my honorable mention — Facebook, that has remained and continued being used. Although I will say it serves mostly as a family and old friend communication tool. I use it on a much more limited and restricted basis, in other words I friend very few people.
My Top 5 apps that I am still waiting for. Well, the number one is SlingPlayer, of course, I am far from alone here. Otherwise, I had wanted an iBank app, Ping.fm app, Google Talk app and a Sirius app. These have almost all been replaced by something else with the exception of SlingPlayer. The desire for iBank has been replaced with Mint.com, any thought of a Sirius app has been replaced by the free alternative of Slacker (or Pandora). The final two (Ping.fm and Google Talk) I just no longer wish for.
So, there was my little trip down the App Store memory lane. Lets here how your use may have changed, or in my case, how it has remained pretty constant.
