We have what are being referred to as the specs, along with the release date of the yet-to-be-announced next-gen iPhone. These are coming courtesy of what was noted as a “reputable source” and personally I am not falling for it. Don’t get me wrong, they look good but they all do not really make sense. Anyway, on with the rumored specs;
- 32GB for $299 and 16GB for $199
- 3.2 Megapixel camera
- Video recording & editing capabilities
- Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
- Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
- OLED screen
- 1.5X The battery life
- Double the RAM and processing power
- Built-in FM transmitter
- Apple logo on the back to light up
- Rubber-tread backing
- Sleeker design
- Built-in compass
- Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations.
- Turn by turn directions
Finally, it was noted that the iPhone would be available as of Juy 17, 2009. Personally, I would believe the availability date, however the rest of the specs are reading like a wish list as opposed to actual features.
As to why I cannot support this list, first I do not believe that Apple would include the FM transmitter for no other reason than people have been asking for that since the earlier iPod days. Why would Apple decide to include it now? Second, the light up Apple logo sounds like a fanboy dream and hack — do I need to go on?
Also, as Cult of Mac pointed out, the OLED displays are not readily available just yet.

“Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device” – this one is particularly amusing, considering that it is a major part of the device’s antenna!
