Apple makes pledge to not distribute pornography

Several days ago, “Hottest Girls,” the first app containing nudity, was released and available for purchase on iTunes. Apple has since removed the offending app, and stated to CNN that they will not distribute “applications that contain inappropriate content,” in short: porn.

“Apple will not distribute applications that contain inappropriate content, such as pornography. The developer of this application added inappropriate content directly from their server after the application had been approved and distributed, and after the developer had subsequently been asked to remove some offensive content. This was a direct violation of the terms of the iPhone Developer Program. The application is no longer available on the App Store.”

As “arn” of MacRumors pointed out, Apple’s rating system (on iTunes) does not specifically target nudity as a disqualifying characteristic in an app.

People really need to get over their fear of nudity in the States. Seriously! It’s guns that you really need to worry about!!!

  2. Drbling Says:

    I agree.

  3. hudster Says:

Well I guess I’m a problem, since I’m a multiple gun owner, oh no! Anyway, I think that is a very wise and great idea!

  4. Jawn Says:

Maybe apple could use a new rating system

  5. Andy Says:

Wunnnspeed-What about all the kids that use the iphone? Maybe Apple doesn’t want them exposed to this material or the other rapist out there. I applaude Apple for doing this.

  6. James Says:

Andy, or perhaps you just make sure that the account can only be enabled for such materials before you can access them. Taking a head in the sand approach is just silly, there is nothing “wrong” with porn (or guns for that matter), just the people that use them.

I also love that you throw in rapists as if a couple of nude pix in some random app would lead to rape.

  7. Andy Says:

James-It will start with an app that only shows nude pics and then molesters like yourself will try and take it another step further with some sort of interactive app that can chat with kids. Then, when something goes wrong, the parents will want to file suit against Apple. Why don’t you just go back to the playboy channel and save Apple the legal fees?

  8. Jimbob Says:

    LOL @ Andy

Yeah, I’m sure everyone is waiting for a paedo app. But seriously, nude photos are a world away from rapists and child molesters, like sensible gun ownership is a world away from people going on killing sprees. It’s not just the US that has the iPhone, most European countries don’t have such a hang up on nudity. It’s wrong to impose your set of morals on everyone else the same as it’s wrong to say your religion is right and everyone elses is wrong.

    Peace out

Jimbob-if it is wrong to impose your set of morals on other people then why are you on here saying how I and most everyone in America should get over the fear of nudity?
