As we have already learned from the AT&T iPhone 3G S walkthrough video, their stores will be opening up at 7am for those that pre-order the iPhone 3GS, now Apple has made their special hours available.
Again, with Apple and AT&T alike, it seems they are really pushing for the iPhone 3G S to be pre-ordered and just picked up on the release day (June 19). That aside though, according to the Apple website it looks like most retail locations will be opening up at 8am, but you can always check your individual store to make sure.
Bottom line, it looks like if you are wanting to be amongst the first to get your hands on an iPhone 3G S then an AT&T retail location may be your best bet. Of course, judging from previous experience, it is always fun to attend (camp out) for an Apple release at an actual Apple store.
It should also be noted that (at least according to Apple) “Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at your Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first served basis.” Which tells me that even as a pre-order you may want to get to wherever you plan to pick up your iPhone as early as possible.

I’m not sure about getting the 3gs right away due to the lack of mms from att. I know that there are other cool things to look for in iphone 3gs. AT&T is just suck. I’m sure they most likely to have new expensive plan for mms. Bring back Cingular.

I surely hope that if I can’t make it to the store until late in the day Friday or Saturday morning, that the phone which I’ve already paid for (and according to inside sources should have my name on it) isn’t given away to some goofball who arrives before.me
