AT&T Navigator is now available for download in the App Store. The app, which offers “voice-guided GPS navigation” is free to download, however it will cost you $9.99-a-month thereafter. As for the monthly payments, those will be billed with your existing AT&T account. The Navigator app is able to be used with either the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS and requires iPhone OS 3.0.
For those unfamiliar, the AT&T Navigator app will offer users voice-guided navigation and has features such as automatic re-routing, real-time traffic updates, the ability to find points of interest such as gas stations, coffee shops and even ATM and Wi-Fi hotspots. Overall the Navigator software is noted as having “over 10 million business listings.”
Additionally, the Navigator app will also provide “regular map updates” which are automatic and at no extra cost to the user.
It is also important to note that if you decide to download this app and give it a try, you will need to actually call AT&T to cancel the monthly service fee. In other words, simply deleting the app from your iPhone will not cancel the billing.
Personally, for 10 bucks a month I can hold off, I am not a big fan of monthly reoccurring charges. Lets just hope that this does not set a precedence for any other GPS apps that are going to become available, I for one would rather pay up front and not monthly.

I think I’ll just hold off to see what TomTom has to offer…hopefully they’ll put their app up at a reasonable price.

If you travel frequently & have a need for such a service it is a small price to pay – especially if updates come automatically. I have found that the maps app on the iPhone is horribly unreliable – especially in major cities in the US for driving directions. I am not sure why this is but will try the app to see if there is any difference.

the AT&T app is not bad. Tom Tom is going to change more the $10 a month. and AT&T might block some nav apps from working.

This app won’t work without a data connection. That alone is reason to pass. It won’t work in areas without strong cell phone coverage. The Tom-Tom app will install the maps to the iPhone and will probably charge a one-time fee.

Come on let be serious here, how often do you nav? Most of the place you go, you already know how to get there. Unless you are the worst person in direction, then you wouldn’t be driving too much. Nav on the iPhone works just fine. Why spending money on something you already have. If you need to, go out and by a car gps and it would be a lot cheaper in te long run.

Nav should be free. It is apart of the service you pay already.I can see $2 dollars a month. If sprint can make it free, why can’t AT&T
