Yes, this will be another borderline rant and for that I will apologize in advance, however I am an AT&T customer and it seems they are not willing to make their customers very happy.
To begin with, the pricing is a bit higher than many iPhone users would have expected, but that aside, there are also a few other tidbits that are not all that pleasing.
First up, we have MMS, or should I say we have the lack of MMS. Yup, although MMS was announced as an iPhone OS 3.0 feature, AT&T users will not be getting MMS until later this summer. The reason for the delay (at least according to the Boy Genius) is because AT&T has to manually remove the “opt out MMS codes” on each iPhone account.
Second, we have the lack of tethering. Honestly, before I go and get all upset about this one, I should say that unlike MMS messaging, I did not expect to be able to tether (at least without jailbreaking). There is however a light, albeit a small one at the end of the tunnel. Again, according to the Boy Genius, AT&T will be offering a tethering plan but the details are still being worked out. So far, it was noted that it could possibly cost $70 a month and it would be for unlimited data and tethering. Of course, there was not any time frame given as to when AT&T customers can expect to see a tethering plan available.
Honestly, these could both be labeled as a FAIL on the part of AT&T. After all, it is not any secret that iPhone OS 3.0 would have built-in support for MMS and tethering. You would have thought that AT&T could have planned ahead a little.

I am so sick of the crap that we all seem to be willing to put up with from both at&t AND Apple. Tethering is just one example, there are many more. Plugging a Windows Mobile device into a laptop and using it as a “modem” is SO EASY, and free … even ON the at&t network! Personally I’m thinking that a switch away from at&t AND iPhone is the answer. Very dissapointing, I LOVE the device, but I continually find that the restrictions placed on iPhone in the US by both of these companies for me mean it’s not a viable business tool.

yeah i can see why everyones really mad. i was pissed to find out what at&t is doing about the mms and tethering waits. its kind of like oh were going to let you update your phone and it supports these apps but there only half supported because of dam AT&T. like you said i love the phone but AT&T sucks really bad. oh and they want to make you buy a plan just to hook up your phones internet to your computer, when most of us already have unlimted data plan. its like how stupid do they have to be. they really need to think about there customers and not about how many phones there gonna sell!

Are they really going to do this? At&t is really stupid because they are more likely to lose money. Why is it such a big deal for an iphone to have mms? Apple and at&t need to get the fork out of their ass and stop being so stupid. Apple already took off the video recording feature so they can put it on the 3g s. The 3g s is retarded because it has almost no differences than the normal 3g. If they were to make a new iphone they sould have made thinner ones that come in different colors. I guess the 3.0 features they announced were too good to be true.

I dont understand why the iphone couldnt originally send mms messages, the RAZR i had years ago could send and receive pictures, its not that hard, this is just apple and at&t trying to get people to pay more money for their half-assed products

AT&T Is just acting dumb 100% dumb. I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone walk up to the store and call them Dumb Asses. Well, because that is what they are acting like. Verizon Wireless (I switched From) is just the same. They just want all our money. We can’t forget though, the economy messed up, so that is why and they are making up excuses to make us stop complaining.

I too am so sick of AT&T and the bull they are constantly pulling. Here you get all of these ppl worked up about the new 3.0 and don’t even deliver the goods. Why even bring up the fact that the phone is mms capable and then not have the option to do so. And whats up with the 3Gs? The phone is identical to the 3G so it was a stupid move. you are basically paying for the 3.0 system(inless you are a new iphone customer) Long story short apple & AT&T failed to deliver =(

The fact that AT&T isn’t even making any public comments, or apologies about the lack of mms ability shows you how scandalous they are, and how they really could give a flying shit about thier customers!! they know we wanted this ability (and so did apple for that matter) now we have this ability and they “aren’t ready” and cant even f%#@king say their sorry!! YEA THEY CARE!! they are one of the biggest communication companies in the world, and they can’t let IPHONE users MMS!! that makes them look stupid, but we are just as stupid for putting up with it!!

Jason –
You are actually very stupid. Anyone that will get that out of control over multimedia texting is ridiculous. I’m not sure why ATT is taking so long to get the feature, but anyone that has had an iPhone somehow managed to live without it for quite some time. Patience young grasshopper, you look like a child.
