iPhone OS 3.0: I upgraded, all systems still appear normal

Just in case we still have anyone that is on the fence as to whether they should upgrade or hold tight for a little while, I thought it would be good to offer a quick recap on my experience. Of course, it almost seems like it should almost go without saying that, judging from the fact that I have the time to write this that my upgrade went smooth.

Anyway, to keep it short and to the point, my upgrade process went just as expected. Once I clicked the “Check for Updates” button in iTunes, I think it took longer to download the update then to actually have my iPhone back up and running with OS 3.0. In other words, the upgrade was quick and painless. Getting back to my results, I carefully stated that it went as expected, because the upgrade went fine, but the iPhone is no longer jailbroken.

Otherwise, after the update was completed, I then removed the iPhone from iTunes, did some organizing of my apps and then connected back to iTunes. Once I was reconnected, the first sync did take quite a while, it had to perform that first backup, however since then it is all seemingly back to normal, of course normal with some extra features.

As for the extra features, there are quite a bit and although I appreciate cut, copy and paste I think my favorite (at least so far) is the Spotlight Search.

In conclusion, I am missing a few items that I had when I was jailbroken, such as my lock screen calendar, the ability to block pop-up SMS alerts and my five-icon dock but I realize that I will be able to get them back shortly. That said, I am glad I went ahead and updated.

What do you use to block the pop-up SMS alerts?

Hey Chris, I use an app called Kate (available in Installer) that blocks my pop-up alerts and also gives me the calendar and five-icon dock.

Just a heads up to all iPod touch users not sure about paying for the update. Before I updated I had a jailbroken iPod touch so could therefore activate street view for googlemaps via Cydia. Now with the new 3.0 update I won’t have to do this when I re- jailbrake because apple has activated street view for iPod touch users. I’m sure this feature will make paying for the update so much more worth while for the majority of iPod touch users.
