While we are still waiting for the official release of the iPhone 3G S (at least here in North America) we now have several additional hands-on reviews to check out. If you remember the post from yesterday, we had a review courtesy of Gizmodo, Engadget and David Pogue of the New York Times. Today’s post brings four more reviews which include Walt Mossberg (WSJ), Edward Baig (USA Today), Steven Levy (Wired) and Kent German (CNET).
Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal;
Bottom Line: Both the new iPhone and iPhone OS are packed with features that make a great product even better. But, for many users, the software may be enough of a boost to keep them from buying the new model.
The 3.0 software and 3G S phone may not check off everything on your iPhone wish list. But they give iPhone loyalists plenty of new reasons to celebrate.
WIRED Faster. More storage. Better camera, with video recording capability. Search encompasses more data, not just one app at a time. Voice navigation. Feature-rich iPhone 3.0 software is free to current iPhone users.
TIRED Multitasking still limited. No tethering or MMS support yet for AT&T users. Recent iPhone 3G customers must pay a fortune to upgrade.
The iPhone 3G S doesn’t make the same grand leap that the iPhone 3G made from the first-generation model, but the latest Apple handset is still a compelling upgrade for some users. The iPhone 3G S is faster and we appreciate the new features and extended battery life, but call quality and 3G reception still need improvement.
