It’s iPhone 3G S release day; here is what to expect at Apple and AT&T

Personally, I am not doing the whole wait in line thing this year. Instead I am going to make an attempt at a leisurely entrance sometime in the early morning hours. That said, I am not all that worried if I miss out today, I want the 3G S, but can also wait a few weeks if I had to.

Anyway, for those heading out this morning, you should hopefully already be at the destination of your choice because the doors at both Apple and AT&T were opening up at 7am this morning.

As for AT&T, the 7am opening time is just for those that pre-ordered the iPhone 3G S. For those that did not place a pre-order (like myself) and are hoping to still grab an iPhone today (like myself), then your time is 8am.

As for Apple, you may want to check your individual store on Apple.com, however it looks like most stores (and I am using the word most a little lightly) are set to open at 7am.

Additionally, AT&T has offered up a nice complete guide, which you can find over on ATT.com.

Most of my friends (4 of them only) received theirs through online reservation…. no need for a line…

Everyone at my job and their mother went to the 24 hour store in nyc and got there before anyone else could even line up! hahahahah

The store I went to on long island has no line and plenty in stock. Meanwhile the apple store 1 mile up the road has 200 people on line and are sold out of the white models.

I have a friend that got the iPhone 3Gs for $199 but he has not been with Att a full year and he had a 3G. but I bought the 3G when it first came out and I have been with Att for 4 years and they said I have to pay $399 for the 16gb. how is that fair. he got a full upgarde. all I can get is a early upgrade and I have had the 3G longer then him. AT&T needs to fix this asap or a lot of people won’t be happy.

I stopped in at my local ATT store here in Memphis, TN at 9:00am. There were 4 eager associates ready to help. I was in and out in 15 minutes. I was across town later in the day and stopped in at the mall ATT for a cover. Nice traffic, but no lines. They reported being out of 16 gigs already. I LOVE mine!!!

In and out in 15 minutes. I went in the afternoon. Mine was preordered. The non preordered ones had sold out. The Apple store had a line around the block I heard.

Problem though, I cant get webpage links ( such as to CNN.com and others) to work. Anyone know what’s up?

In New York just north of NYC there were about 150-200 at opening my experience:
I pre-ordered my iPhone, got to store an hour or so early I was 5th in line
    7:00am in store
    7:02am phone in hand
    7:05am activated
7:07am mobileme loaded and contacts, calendar and mail on phone
    7:10am first call
    7:10 1/2am first dropped At&t call
7:15am in car on my home
I had a good time on line chatting and goofing off with others there Apple staff like always a true pleasure to work with…. all in all a great experience
