Jailbreaking News: InstallerApp is going bye bye

Thanks to a recent post over on the Ripdev blog, we have learned that InstallerApp is being killed off.

“And we believe, it is about time to officially announce that we are discontinuing support of Installer platform for iPhone and iPod touch.”

Personally, I am not all that upset, namely because most jailbroken apps have been available in Cydia. Either way, it seems that Ripdev has finally relented and accepted the fact that Cydia has won in the jailbroken app market. Of course, I think many users would have said that Installer died way back when Cydia was ready to go when iPhone OS 2.0 was released and Installer took its time with an update.

That said, if there were any apps that you have gotten used to from Installer, you are not going to lose out. To begin with, you will still have until July 1, 2009 before it shuts down for good. But that aside, Ripdev is going to be keeping Icy available, and Icy is compatible as a source in Cydia.

Personally, I am just hoping that Ripdev does not choose to stop development on Kate, which is one of the main reasons that I jailbreak. The last I have read anything about Kate was way back in April when the Ripdev team stated that were “working on Kate for 3.0.” Hopefully it will come sooner than later.
