The current status of iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreaking comes with some good news and some bad news. As of now, those running iPhone OS 3.0 will be able to jailbreak — that is as long as you are not using an iPhone 3G S. Basically, if you are planning to jailbreak and/or unlock your iPhone, make sure you follow the directions of the Dev Team and read all the directions carefully.

Anyway, so far Pwnage Tool for Mac OS X has been released and can jailbreak your original iPhone (1st Generation), original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G. For those who are able to take advantage of this version, head on over to the Dev Team’s blog (link below) and get your Bittorrent download link.

Additionally, the Dev Team has also released redsn0w, which offers functionality similar to QuickPwn. This tool also comes with some warnings, to begin with it will only work on an Intel based Mac or Windows computers, in other words, for those running a Power PC based Mac you will want to hold off. As far as what redsn0w will jailbreak, that is the same as Pwnage Tool and includes the original iPhone (1st Generation), original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G, however this will also work on the 2G iPod touch.

Finally, a version of QuickPwn for both Mac and Windows is still in the works, as well as an app that will allow a jailbreak of the iPhone 3G S. Personally, I am hoping that comes soon, I am loving my iPhone 3G S and its speed, but really missing my jailbroken customizations.
