Despite all of the anger surrounding the iPhone and AT&T, there are plenty of other areas in the world that are hoping to see a quick release of the iPhone 3G S — one of which is Canada.
As of now, I have not seen anything in terms of an official announcement on the Rogers or Fido website, however it seems that the Social Media rep for Rogers and Fido is talking on Twitter.
According to the tweets from Keith Mcarthur;
“Both Rogers Wireless and Fido will offer iPhone 3GS starting June 19.”
As for pricing, the 16GB model will retail for $199 and the 32GB model for $299, both of which also require the user to sign a 3-year agreement in order to secure that price. Additionally, the 8GB iPhone 3G will drop down to $99 beginning tomorrow June 9 and as you would expect, this also requires a 3-year agreement.
One bit of good news here comes in the form of data plans. Effective June 9 and running “for a limited time” Rogers will be reintroducing the 6GB/$30 a month data plan.

Do you think that they will have special deals for the users that are locked down for 3 years on last years Iphone plans?

Kinda a good news bad news…. good that it`s in canada on the 19th but bad less you`re rich or not with fido or rogers previously…. dunno bout anyone else but less i were making more than i was at my last job before i went back to school even 600$ is too rich for my blood…. True you can sell your 3g but realistically you won`t get much for it with the 3g prices dropping at the same time!
When i bought mine in december i was concerned about this happening (no price drop for those whom were already on a contract for a new one and the price being crazy if they did come out with a new one in the summer). The rep i got it from and several others were all aglow about how when the last upgrade came out people on fido and rogers got a cheaper deal to upgrade yada yada they were sure the same deal would be offered. Ah well. What can you do….

This is bullshit I just got suckered into a 3 yr contract last month!! got a 3g iPhone and payed $200 taxes and now instead of punching myself in the face..I’m going to punch rogers out b/c they knew this was coming and they didn’t help by telling me..heck I bet apple had this new 3g S planned to come out a year ago but they wanted to get as many people to get the 3g first and then when the hype died down..release their weapon..nice usage of bait..this is kife!!! I’m fuming big time…
Anyone know if rogers has some kind of upgrade for customers who just got on a 3 yr commitment to the 3g? something..anything, I mean, this just ain’t right!!

Sorry to say this, but the 3G S rumors have been going around for months now. Since the introduction of the first iPhone they have updated the model at the same time every year, and it was pretty much a slam dunk that they would do the same this year. It really isn’t a surprise.
Sorry to hear that you guys got screwed, but I’ve been waiting for about 4 months with a half broken miserable RAZR for the new iPhone to come out.

Lots of anger up there but Daniel is right. If you really wanted the latest iPhone you would have done a bit of research and not bought a stale apple that had been out for 11 months already. Apple updates their products fairly regularly, as do most companies.
I am 9 months into a 3 yr contract and I don’t have an iPhone. Do you think rFoIgDeOrs will let me have another subsidized phone without a new contract? No. They will ask me to pay the full $799 or whatever and still get to count their money. The phone companies don’t give you a subsidized phone because they think you are swell, they do it to lock you down and take thousands of dollars from you. They already have you tied up so why would they give you another subsidized phone? Those phones aren’t cheap!
