I am still a little surprised that I missed this little gem, however it seems that in the same “five ways to save” information regarding the iPhone 3G S pricing for Rogers, it was also noted that Rogers customers would have Internet tethering included — for free.
“To use tethering or wireless modem functionality you require the new iPhone 3G S, or an iPhone 3G that has been upgraded with the new iPhone OS 3.0 software.”
That, of course does come with some good news and some bad news. First things first, lets get the bad out of the way, the tethering is available through December 31, 2009. It also requires the user to be running iPhone OS 3.0 on either an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S, no mention was made of support for the original iPhone.
The good news is that the tethering is free and users will not see any additional charges. In order to use tethering, you will have to be on a data plan subscription with at least 1GB of data per month.
Finally, it looks like this will eventually be a paid service, it was noted that after December 31, 2009 “Rogers will continue to enable tethering on devices that allow it, but data plans will be adjusted to better reflect the way customers are using tethering services.”
Of course, keep in mind that your tethering usage is going to be tied into your regular data usage, in other words make sure you monitor how much you are using in order to avoid overage charges.
Bottom line, Rogers is looking pretty good. Not only did they come though with some last minute pricing, but they are also including tethering (at least initially) for free as well as MMS.

That’s awsome for CANADIAN. Does anyone knows if mms is available with other carrier in other country beside stinking American greedy company like AT&T ?

If I pay for a data plan of 6gb/ month through my wireless device then what is it any of their business to charge me extra to “tether”. I never signed a contract that said I couldn’t tether (or did I?)
Someone needs to start filing class action law suites agianst these cell phone providers, they are extorting us for every last penny they can squeeze out of us.
Canada, mobile phones = highway robbery
The government should be doing more to protect us.

Yeah I agree, I would be down for a lawsuit. I signed a 3 year 6gb dataplan anticipating that tethering would be a option months after the release of the Iphone. Now they want to charge me to tether a year into my contract? no way. Free my ass this is BS
