Sirius iPhone app coming June 18

Sirius iPhone app coming June 18

It has been a little while since we last heard about a Sirius app becoming available for the iPhone and now it seems as if it will be available very soon. In fact, according to an email that is reportedly coming from Sirius — it will be available as of tomorrow June 18, 2009.

“Thank you for contacting SIRIUS regarding whether or not there is a SIRIUS iPhone application available. We are here to help! We appreciate the time you have taken to contact us in regards to this matter! We are happy to inform you that beginning June 18th a SIRIUS Internet Radio application will be available at the Apple iTunes App-Store for the iPhone and the iPod Touch!”

Additionally, it was noted that the app itself will be a free download, however it will end up costing users $2.99 a month, which is certainly not as free as Slacker or Pandora, but still low priced enough to be competitive.

Unfortunately, while it seems that the release date and pricing information are official, we are still unsure of what the app will actually offer in terms of available channels and features. That said, it does not appear as if we are going to have much longer to wait before we find out for ourselves.

Wow! I feel like it’s christmas and I’m 6 years old again. I don’t have an iphone but I am a big invester and have had satelite radio for about 7 years. This leap into smartphones is huge for the business. I believe this will be the future of radio starting tomorrow. Sirius XM will be available wherever people go without any additional costs for equipment. In a few years all the new cars being sold will be on the road and have sirius xm installed just waiting to be turned on with a phone call or with your phone browser. People at work will be able to listen to their favorite music or talkshows through their phone. Joggers and bikers can listen while they excercise. People will either listen to satelite radio or their own limited familiar playlists. Pandora and slacker days are coming to an end due to the costs of royalty payments. They will either have to charge or raise their rates for advetisers and that wont work. A new age in radio is approaching, not fm, not am Sirius XM!!! Radio the way it is suppose to be not filtered and forcing you to hear commercials about 30-50% of the time!

Well Stern fans are screwed. I installed the Sirius app this morning and Howards channels are not available. What a let down!

However, you can purchase the Wunderradio app and stream Sirius to your iPhone.

No word from Sirius why Howards channels are not available on their official app.
