The Sirius XM iPhone app became officially available as of June 18 and according to “leaked internal memo” which comes courtesy of Alley Insider, the app has already had 500,000 downloads.
That said, it is still unclear as to how many of those 500,000 have become, or are paying customers as opposed to users just taking advantage of the free trial and trying something new. If nothing else, I guess this just goes to show that Sirius has more going for it than Howard Stern, who happens to be left off the iPhone app.
Additionally, speaking of Howard Stern, it seems that his channels are not available because of “a rights thing, a contractual-rights thing.” Of course, there is some hope for the future because he also went on to state that “maybe one day, we will be.”
Unfortunately, Howard Stern did not give anything further as to why he was not available on the app other than the previously mentioned rights comment. He did however choose to agree, stating “yeah, that’s it” after his sidekick Artie Lange said that “Apple shouldn’t profit off Howard Stern.”

I consider that a plus. One of the reasons I went with XM was no Stern, better music also but that is not true any more………

Stern has made a world of money already with Sirius XM to the point of bringing them to the brink of bankruptcy. He does not really care whether they succeed or not. His whole career has been all about the money or he doesn’t want to play! His show is entertaining for sure, but he should not demand more money based on the expanded iphone user base. Just my opinion!
