Still unconfirmed: iPhone 3GS jailbreak discovered by GeoHot

Currently the iPhone 3GS is still not able to be jailbroken or unlocked, which for some (myself included) is proving to be good and bad. Good because I am fortunate to have been able to upgrade my hardware, but bad because I am missing out on some of my favorite apps.

Anyway, it would seem as if this may be getting ready to change. George Hotz, who is perhaps a little better know as GeoHot — the individual who offered the first hardware unlock back in the original iPhone days has discovered a method to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS. The method has been dubbed purplera1n and can be found at purplera1n.com.

So far, the details along with a way for anyone to take advantage of his discovery have not been released. What we have is a screenshot that appears to be of a custom command in iBoot. In a little more of a technical description, that means that the “sigchecks have been bypassed” which from what I understand is a good thing.

You can put coustom ringtones under 30 sec in length simply by converting them to m4r and dragging them into iTunes ring tones for ring tones longer than 30 seconds you need first an older version of iTunes the one before now and a program called ring ring I hope that helps some of you. Regards Wrs

Well, I for one are glad my shiny new 3gs cannot yet be jailbroken

The 3.0 JB apps are a bit buggy, and waiting 2-3 weeks will stabilize
    them!!!!

I know that if I could JB my 3gs now, I would and have alot of restore grief!!!
