TomTom unveils turn-by-turn directions for the iPhone

Mixed in with with all of the MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard and iPhone 3G S coverage there were also a few apps that were shown off yesterday worth mentioning.

First up in that category is the hopefully soon to be released TomTom Navigation app for the iPhone. As of now, we can tell you that this app is scheduled to be released for iPhone OS 3.0, however a release date has not yet been given, so far it has only been listed as “coming soon.”

Unfortunately, we still have few details on the app other than the obvious — it will provide real-time navigation.

Additionally, in conjunction with the software release, TomTom will also be selling a car dock that will mount on your windshield using a suction cup. Based on the information given during the Keynote, the car mount will allow the iPhone to be docked in either portrait or landscape mode. The dock will also allow the user to keep their iPhone charged while in the car as well as make hands-free calls.

Finally, we are still unsure as to what price this app will be selling for. Of course, as more information becomes available we will keep you updated.

This is like the application that never comes, and then it does. Anticlimactic.
