The AT&T Navigator app has gotten some good reviews, but by far I think people would prefer to pay an upfront cost as opposed to a monthly fee for their GPS needs. That said, there is a simple way to get yourself a free 30-day trial of AT&T Navigator.
All you have to do is call up AT&T and ask for it. Of course, that 30-day trial does auto-renew which means you will have to remember to call back and have them cancel it in order to not see any additional charges on your monthly bill.
Given that, this would be a nice way to actually test the service before committing, or it could be well used by someone who just needs a GPS for a quick trip.

Offer invalid for the iPhone. Says so right on AT&T’s website.

I called after the charge appeared on my bill, and they removed it. At the time, it didn’t state ‘invalid for iPhone’ as it does now.
I cancelled after getting the credit and purchased the new Navigon app at the $70 introductory price. In use, Navigator turned out to be a much better product. I had a strong signal when using Navigator, or my impression may have been different. It locked onto a signal, and held it much more so than Navigon. It also displayed my location accurately. Driving on a street parallel to the freeway, Navigon placed me on the freeway continually prompting me to ‘take the next exit’ or ‘uturn’ (on a freeway?!). Navigator correctly placed me on the that same freeway-parallel street and routed me accordingly.
I requested and received a refund from the AppStore for Navigon, and am waiting for TomTom, hoping it’ll be ‘the one’.
Navigator is a great option though, something you can ‘turn-on’ for a month if you’re somewhere you need navigational assistance, and there’s a strong data signal.

I am on my fifth day of trial and it has been good to me so far. I went to Tampa for the weekend and it performed great on the iphone. It did not freeze at any time and I love that it keeps checking for traffic.

Yeah, well, good luck getting a rebate when you get the bill for your “free trial” Garo. At least Benji got one.
