iPhone 3GS vs. Flip Mino vs. Flip Ultra HD

The Tech Chronicles recently did a head to head comparison of the iPhone 3GS and the Flip Mino, as well as the iPhone 3GS and the Flip Ultra HD. Both Flip cameras are extremely popular and have seen widespread use across the internet, particularly amongst the vlogging community.

Here’s the first comparison: iPhone 3GS vs. Flip Mino.

The results look pretty clear to me (though not HD clear!) the iPhone appears to have noticeably sharper audio and video than the Flip Mino (keep in mind that both of these videos have been compressed through YouTube.) So if you’re torn between either an iPhone 3GS or a Flip Mino (why you’d be faced with that choice I don’t know,) I’d say go with the iPhone 3GS hands down, plus, you can’t make calls from the Flip Mino!

Here’s the second comparison: iPhone 3GS vs. Flip Ultra HD

Obviously the iPhone 3GS can’t really stack up to a camera that can shoot in HD, so the Flip Ultra HD takes the prize on this one.

If price is a concern to you, keep in mind that the MSRP on the Flip Ultra HD is $199.99, the same price as a brand new 16gb iPhone 3GS.

Interesting comparison of the video capabilities of these devices, as a reference to where the 3GS fits into the scheme of things. However, to say that the $199 price of the iPhone can be compared directly to a Flip is quite off the mark, since with the iPhone you must commit to a 2 year agreement at a minimum of $80, bringing the 2 year price of an iPhone to $2119 :-O But, then of course you get an iPhone :-)

If you want to compare the video in each device, fine. I could have told you which one would have one. But mentioning price implies you are comparing them as alternatives to each other. Who goes out to buy a Mino and ends up with a 3GS? It’s like going out to buy a toothbrush and buying a dentist’s office instead.
