Meet AriX, the 15-year old iPhone hacker

Recently, the subject of jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone has been getting a little more attention, which is most likely due to the recent iPhone 3GS jailbreak being released. As we saw, that jailbreak came first in the form of purplera1n and then was followed up by the Dev Team’s redsn0w.

That said, we often find ourselves with little knowledge, in some cases due to paranoia, about the team members behind the software. In this case, the Wall Street Journal ran a pretty nice piece on Ari Weinstein, who is a little better known online as AriX.

It is interesting to see that Ari is only 15 years old and has been hacking since he was 11, not to mention he comes with a pretty strong opinion.

“Apple doesn’t have the right to tell me what I can put on my phone,” says Ari, who uses non-Apple-sanctioned programs that let him change the look of his home screen and administer Web sites from his phone. “I only do hacking that helps people.”

Ari was also the person behind the incredibly easy to use iJailbreak software that was released a few years back for the original iPhone.

Overall, the article, which comes along with a family style video offers a nice glimpse at a side of the jailbreaking scene that we do not see all that often and at the same time it is slightly entertaining to read.

If nothing else, it would seem that this is not going to be the last we hear about Ari Weinstein.
