More details emerge on the iPhone 3GS video recording accessory
July 7, 2009 | Robert Nelson

Just a few days ago I posted a video sneak preview for Qik on the iPhone 3GS, and that video also included an accessory that I was, and still am excited about seeing. Well, the good news is that it appears as if it will be available, at least in a limited run “at the end of August.”
According the the website, the accessory, which is going by the name of BUBO is being offered by a company called Optical Widgets for Life Enhancement or OWLE for short. Of course, there are few details available on the website other than the mention of the limited run in August and a place to sign up to receive more information.
There is a little bit of good news though, CrunchGear seems to have gotten a little bit more information and are reporting some of the details. According to their post, the BUBO will have a “retail pricepoint in the $30-50 range.” In terms of specs, the BUBO will have a 37mm camcorder lens as well as a front facing microphone. Additionally, you will be able to attach optional accessories including those for lighting and power.
Initially, this device (due to limitations with the iPhones headphone jack) will only be able to record in mono, however there are already plans to make a second version that will plug into the 30-pin dock connector and allow for stereo recording.
In terms of pricing, I am honestly surprised to see such a low expected price. Finally, it looks like after the limited run in August, the regular availability will be sometime around the end of the year. Here is to hoping that I can get my hands on one in August.
