Navigon MobileNavigator now available for North America, priced at $69.99 for a limited time

Navigon has officially released their MobileNavigator GPS app for the iPhone. The app, which can be found in the App Store is priced at $69.99, but it is important to point out that price is “valid only until August 15″ after which it will jump up to (a still reasonable) $99.99.

In terms of features, the MobileNavigator app has what you would expect and includes both 2D and 3D map views, lane maps, speed warnings, a day and night mode for map display, intelligent address entry, automatic switching between portrait and landscape modes, branded points-of-interest, 3D views with actual road signs, integration with the iPhone’s address book and more.

Basically, you are getting a full featured GPS solution that could be used to replace your current solution. The app, which is for North America includes maps for the US (including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands) and Canada.

The one downfall that I can see with this app is in terms of storage requirements, it will use 1.29GB of space. Of course, on the flip side, it uses that much storage because it is storing all of the data on the iPhone, which means that it will be able to be used even when you have little to no signal from AT&T.

Additionally, the app is also promised to come with a free update in the future that will include Navigon’s route planning functionality, additional map view options, a call POI function as well as an “optimized” volume control.

All in all, this seems to be a pretty nice alternative as opposed to paying the $9.99 a month that AT&T is asking for their AT&T Navigator app.
